FAQ

What is Island Desktop?

Island Desktop is a service that extends Island beyond the browser to thick apps, native files, and the endpoint itself. It runs as a native Windows service or macOS daemon, alongside Island, the Enterprise Browser, and applies the same identity-aware policies to zero-trust access, data protection, device posture, and IT operations.

How does Island Desktop work with Island, the Enterprise Browser?

The Island Enterprise Browser and the Island Extension secure the work that happens in the browser. Island Desktop covers everything else on the device: thick clients, SSH and RDP sessions, native applications, local files, and actions on the endpoint. The three work together as one platform, under one policy engine, so control stays consistent from the browser to the operating system.

Does it replace my VPN, DLP, and device tools?

Island Desktop consolidates ZTNA, endpoint DLP, browser enforcement, and device posture support into one agent, governed by one policy engine. It can replace or coexist alongside VPN, DLP, and endpoint management solutions.

Which platforms does it support, and how is it deployed?

Island Desktop runs as a native Windows service and a macOS daemon. Install it alongside the Island Enterprise Browser with a single installer, or push it independently through Intune, SCCM, Jamf, or your other device management tools. A modular plugin architecture lets you turn on only the capabilities you need, and updates are pushed centrally from the Island console.
